Does CoQ10 Lower Blood Pressure?

4 July 2010 No Comment

In 1999 a 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was conducted to see if oral coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) lowers blood pressure. Half of the approximately 80 participants with isolated systolic hypertension received 60mg of oral CoQ10 administered twice daily and the other half was given a placebo. By the end of the trial, the average participant on the CoQ10 regiment had lowered their systolic blood pressure. However, there was no change in diastolic blood pressure and only about 55% of the participants had a systolic change of greater than 3 mmHg. For 45% of the population the treatment was not effective. Please note that you should not start any new treatments without consulting your doctor.
